On April 22, 2016, a dream came true! I traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to visit the highly acclaimed Ron Clark Academy, a nonprofit middle school that promotes innovation in the classroom. It was the most rewarding professional development of my teaching career. I was able to observe Ron Clark and his fantastic teaching staff use different techniques to increase their students’ engagement, to promote academic rigor and to create a climate of success.

I have tried very hard over the last 21 years to implement many different research-based ways to make my classroom environment conducive to open collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. Ron Clark, Kim Bearden, and Hope King have inspired me to integrate many different strategies into my classroom. I am attending this Student Leadership Summit to add strategies to my "toolbox" and to gain more knowledge about the Leader in Me Program which Ron Clark supports. I have read the Leader in Me book, I have visited Leader in Me schools, and I have used a variety of Stephen Covey resources in my classroom.

This is my 21st year of teaching second grade. I am very fortunate to have many technology items that I integrate into the classroom daily. This is my 16th year using a Smart Board. I have 30 iPod Touches, 12 iPad minis, 10 Nexus Tablets, a Smart Document Camera 330, Juno Front Row System, 2 Apple TVs, Wii, and Chromebook Cart with 30 Chromebooks.

I am currently a PowerTeacher trainer for my school district. I am also the Webmaster for the Union Elementary website and Union Facebook. I have presented at the SmartEd Ohio Free Technology Conference in Sandusky, Ohio in 2010 and in Toledo, Ohio 2011. I have also presented for the 2010 NWOET (Northwest Ohio Educational Technology) Technology Conference in Bowling Green, Ohio and the NWOET Conference 2014 at Hopewell Louden, Ohio. I presented at the 2012 & 2013 Ohio eTech Conference in Columbus and 2015 & 2016 SPARCC Conference in Canton, Ohio.

As a professional educator, sharing my passion of technology with other teachers is so rewarding! I greatly enjoy sharing ideas and supporting teachers who attend my technology sessions. We have traded many technology ideas and given support to each other over the years through email, Twitter and Facebook. Students today are growing up in a world overflowing with a variety of high-tech tools, from computers and video games to increasingly sophisticated mobile devices. I am constantly challenging myself to learn new ways to integrate technology into my classroom because I want to help my students acquire the skills they need to survive in a complex, highly technological knowledge-based economy.
